January 8, 2008 Kikuyu Area Update

I am happy that you are able to cope with the stress of things that keep on occurring, and especially, your brother's affairs. God will continue to strengthen you in all that you do for you stand tall as His beacon of hope.

We held the national elections on 27th. Dec. Apparently those opposing the incumbent president had no word "defeat" in their vocabulary and they were and still are not willing to adopt the word. The fact is that Raila Odinga was defeated. There were irregularities on both sides and especially on his side, but his team and himself is hell-bent to assume power at all costs. Violence has broken out in some major towns like Kisii, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kericho, Bungoma, Mombasa, some parts of Nairobi, etc. with all of it being started and being perpetrated by the Luo and Kalenjin communities, but mostly the Luos, Raila's community. Right now some semblance of peace has descended on the country, but thew opposition is still agitating on the country holding another election for the president which the masses do not want.. A cabinet was named last night with 17 ministers being appointed and this number will be increased gradually. Parliament opens on 15th. About 500 people have died so far and a large number has been chased away from their homes especially in the Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western provinces. My own two sisters lost everything when their homes and shops were burnt down. Another brother is living with his family in a police station. We are striving to send them foods, clothing and beddings for they lost everything. So has all the misplaced families. Schools have not been able to reopen so far.

We are with you in prayers always. Stay strong and determined in all you do for God loves you. So do we.
